Phase II – Leading Others



Finding appropriate, useful supervisory and mid-management training that truly impacts the competency, commitment and attitude and feelings of supervisors in the law enforcement arena is not easily done. This session focuses on the first line supervisor and mid-manager, to do just that. For all the complexity of what we do, two of the most critical leadership skills are those dealing with relationships and productivity of our teams. This seminar will identify how critical these two variables are to good leadership and then will skill build them. Tools are provided that will assist the attendee to work more effectively as a developer with their people, both as individuals and as a team. Case studies and illustrations are included as part of the curriculum.



What is your communication style? Dominant, Influential, Supportive or Conscientious? Effective leadership is key to the success of any business or organization. Leadership is relational; leadership is influence.


The students will be introduced to DISC® and assessed on their unique communication style. DISC® is a methodology of predicating human behavior based off four characteristics. Each of us is actually a combination of all four. It’s to the degree that any one of us is wired that helps to determine the predictability, our communication style, what motivates us, our idea work environment, our strengths and much more. DISC® is of utmost importance as it can measure behavioral and personality style. It was developed by the renowned psychologist William Moulton Marston that focuses on personality traits and how each communication style delivers and receives communications.


These sessions are taught utilizing much of the current thought of adult education principles to accelerate learning. They include multi-media sources and color classroom peripherals and handouts to reinforce learning points. Learning objectives will be met through lecture, discussion, individual and group activities, audio visual aids that will provide application of the concepts discussed, and communication and leadership style inventories.

Assessing Yourself, Your Boss and Your Subordinates – The magic of the DISC® to predict performance of teams: Pairing for Peak Performance; Assessing Yourself, Your Boss and Your Subordinates – The Magic of the DISC®; Understanding the DISC® and Leadership; the students will be given multiple video tests and a case study to demonstrate proficiency in DISC®
